And there is, of course, Hyoutei Gakuen, wherein the tennis season is a celebrated event, often bringing a turnout that is rumored to encompass the entire student body. -- source
Points to Ponder: 1. Atobe Keigo is Highly Invested in the Hyoutei Girls Team. He attends all their games, manages the finances -- to him, they are an extension of his team and are therefore his responsibility. Most of the girls (seniors) are also friends of his, women he respects for their abilities and intelligence whether on and off the court.
2. All the girls are familiar with Atobe Yumi, who while not as omnipresent as her cousin, is someone they get along with to your dismay, eh, Keigo?
3. When Itoguruma High School beats Rikkai Dai in the Kanagawa Finals, THE SHIT HITS THE FAN. Why? Hyoutei wants to prove that their win the previous year was no fluke.
4. Captain Awakusu Rio respects Kotani Asari and Iida Mayuki in terms of their ability. Vice Captain Hirawaka Sanae thinks that had things gone down differently, both Hyoutei and Rikkai might have been friendly rivals instead of what they are now Junko GEEKTHNX. She does not say anything about this though. There is too much animosity between the teams. Hirano Sae, Rikkai's powerhouse, has the odd habit (which surprises the younger members of Rikkai TBH) of sneering at the fact that Hyoutei likes to look pretty on the court (image-wise).
1. Have been friends since their elementary years when Michiko was a rising star in the junior circuit.
2. Have played mixed doubles together: Michiko can say with authority that Yukimura hogs the ball.
3. When Yukimura was in the hospital, it wasn't unusual for Michiko to randomly drop in to check on him. Similarly, when Michiko tore her Achilles' tendon and stopped playing, Yukimura checked in to see how she was.
4. Quoted from [Beginnings: This Team]-- I know a few. Seiichi had told her when she’d asked if he could point out anyone from the mass of otherwise unfamiliar faces. He had done no such thing, instead choosing to reply: Some of the seniors are in my class. Some shared the same elective with me last year. Most of the younger ones I don’t know. Well. Except for Mi-chan. You know her well enough. She used to come by the house.
[You/Me/Us] Friendship: Kotani Asari, Tachibana An
If they meet on the street courts, maybe An doesn't need to know initially that Asari is from Rikkai?
Also An mostly hates Rikkai because she hates Kirihara for injuring her brother, which would've been years ago in this timeline. She could still hold a grudge against him, but we can justify things having changed in any number of ways, especially depending on which school year Asari and An actually meet one another :)
Re: [You/Me/Us] Friendship: Kotani Asari, Tachibana An
I agree with Em, it could be that they just met randomly on the courts and played each other awhile even before the name of schools ever came up.
But if you want An to know who Asari is though, I don't think that An would hold a grudge against the girls team. They're not the ones who injured her brother. Also... idk, I can't see An as the grudge-holding type? We can also do the hand-wavy thing about Akaya being forgiven?
I SHOULD SEND YOU BOTH PAIR PURI though I think Em already has it.
Re: [You/Me/Us] Friendship: Kotani Asari, Tachibana An
1. They've been friends since they were little things, when Koharu lived in Tokyo. When Koharu moved to Kanagawa, they've been exchanging snail mail and phone calls every now and then, taking advantage of every trip to Tokyo (for Koharu) and Kanagawa (for Yuki) just to meet with each other.
2. Koharu influenced Yuki into sports. Dodgeball, soccer, and eventually tennis. Tennis stuck, of course. They dreamed that one day they would be an unbeatable doubles team, even when they have not played doubles together at all. They still talk about it.
3. Yuki is the only person Koharu would tell her deepest, darkest secrets to. Sometimes she doesn't have to, as Yuki has the knack of already knowing what's going on before you even tell her.

But An kind of hates Rikkai. So I need to rethink this!
